Notice on Recommending Outstanding Graduate Students to Participate in the “Tenth Cross-Strait Youth Science and Technology Exchange Activities” in Taiwan

Relevant Subunits,

To implement the policy on Taiwan affairs stated in the report of the 19th National Congress of CPC, promote the national reunification, demonstrate the concept of “one family on both sides of the Strait”, and expand non-governmental scientific and technological exchanges with Taiwan, China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) will continue to host the series of exchange activities for young students across the Taiwan Strait in 2019. With the approval of CAST and as per the notice of the Shanxi Association for Science and Technology (SAST) and the overall arrangement of TYUT, we plan to select candidates from the doctoral and master students of TYUT to participate in the “Tenth Cross-Strait Youth Science and Technology Exchange Activities” in Taiwan in October 2019 and hereby notify relevant matters as follows:

I. Requirements for the Recommended Candidates

According to the “Measures of China Centre for International Science and Technology Exchange (CISTE) for Selecting Students to Participate in the Exchanges with Taiwan”, all subunits shall recommend politically reliable and academically excellent doctoral or master students who major in energy, electronics, chemistry, materials, environmental protection, etc., the programs relevant to the exchange. SAST and CAST will further screen the candidates recommended by relevant units to determine the final candidates for the exchange. The selected candidates shall submit a summary of the exchange within one month after completing the exchange and returning to TYUT.

II. Exchange Topic and Activities

The exchange is themed on industrial innovation, energy and environmental protection. Exchange activities include focused topic discussions and exchanges with doctoral and master students in Taiwan universities, special lectures made by professors from famous universities in Taiwan, and visiting key universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises in Taiwan.

III. Exchange Time and Duration in Taiwan

A total of 7 days staring from October 27 to November 2, 2019.

IV. Quota

Quota: 4-6. Each subunit with academic programs relevant to the science and technology exchange can recommend 1 candidate. The subunit that has related PhD programs can recommend 1 doctoral student and 1 master student.

V. Expanses

The travel expenses to and from Taiwan for the students participating in the exchange will be borne by TYUT, and the expenses required for their stay in Taiwan will be funded by CISTE.

VI. Review and Recommendation Procedures

1. Individual Application

The applicant shall submit the following application materials (in duplicate) to his or her subunit as per the requirements of the notice:
1) “Application Form for Postgraduates of TYUT to Participate in Cross-Strait Youth Science and Technology Exchange Activities” (including relevant supporting materials);
2) Certificate of Enrollment.

2. Subunit Review and Recommendation

After a subunit completes its preliminary review and determines a list of recommended candidates (1-2) with no objections, the designated person in charge of the subunit shall submit before March 28 the paper version of the application materials submitted by the recommended candidates to Office G208 of the International Cooperation Division (ICD) (Yingxi Campus) or Mingxiang Management Committee Room 322, and send the electronic version to ices@tyut.edu.cn. (Note: individual submission will not be accepted).

3. ICD Review and Disclosure

ICD will review the applications with other relevant divisions and determine the list of selected candidates after disclosure with no objections.
