To ensure the steady development of Confucius Institutes and meet their increasing demand for Chinese language teachers, we now launch a university-wide selection of reserve Chinese language teachers for the Confucius Institutes jointly built by TYUT, as per the requirements of Hanban. Relevant matters are notified as follows:

I. Proposed Posts and Number of Vacancies

1. Chinese teachers at the Confucius Institute at Kabul University Afghanistan (CIKU), 3-5;
2. Chinese teachers at the Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, 3-5;
3. Chinese language teachers at the Confucius Institute (to be built) at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) Germany; 3-5.

II. Proposed Dispatching Time and Term of Service

Suitable reserve candidates will be dispatched in accordance with the work arrangements of the Confucius Institutes during 2019-2020, with a term of service of 2-3 years.

III. Eligibility Requirements

According to the requirements of Hanban, the basic requirements for the Chinese teachers at Confucius Institutes are as follows:

1. Ideological and Political Requirements

The candidate should love international Chinese language education and the cause of Confucius Institutes, have knowledge of relevant national guidelines and policies, and abide by the laws and regulations of China and the country where he or she will work. He or she should have a strong sense of organizational discipline and teamwork spirit. He or she should have a strong sense of mission, honor and responsibility, and great virtues; and be dedicated the teaching profession.

2. Application Qualifications
1) The candidate shall have a master’s degree or above; with an education background in Chinese as a foreign language, Chinese language and literature, foreign languages, education, psychology, history, culture, sports, and art;
2) The candidate shall have more than 2 years of teaching experience. Those with experience in teaching Chinese as a second language and with overseas working experience are preferred;
3) The candidate shall have strong Chinese teaching, Chinese cultural dissemination and cross-cultural communication skills;
4) The candidate shall be able to skillfully use modern information technology to carry out work;
5) The candidate shall understand the national conditions and culture of the country where he or she is going to reside and be proficient in English.

3. Language Proficiency Requirements

The candidate shall reach level 2 A or above (inclusive) in Mandarin and be proficient in English or the language of the destination country.

4. Age Requirements

The candidate shall be under 45 years old (inclusive).

5. Physical Conditions

The candidate shall have good physical conditions and be healthy both physically and mentally. He or she shall have strong adaptability and psychological adjustment ability.

6. The candidate shall meet other conditions required by Hanban at the time of dispatchment.

IV. Remuneration for Teachers of Confucius Institutes

The remuneration for the dispatched teachers will be set in accordance with the “Regulations on the Management of the Allowances and Remunerations for Teachers Dispatched Abroad by the State” (Finance & Education [2011] No. 194) as well as relevant regulations of TYUT.

V. Selection Procedures

1. The applicant submits the electronic and paper versions of the “Application Form for Confucius Institute Staff Dispatched by Taiyuan University of Technology" (Attachment 1) (the head of the subunit which the applicant is affiliated shall sign the application form and affix it with the official seal);
2. The Confucius Institute Office will review the qualifications of the applicant together with other relevant divisions; and submit the review result to TYUT administration for approval. TYUT will recommend a certain percentage of candidates to Hanban as per the result of a comprehensive evaluation;
3. The recommended candidates will participate in an examination (written test + interview) organized by Hanban, and those who pass the examination will then participate in the pre-departure training organized by Hanban to obtain the dispatchment qualification;
4. The candidates who have obtained the dispatchment qualification accredited by Hanban will be included in the list of the 2019-2020 reserve Chinese language teachers for the Confucius Institutes jointly built by TYUT and dispatched abroad according to the demands of the Confucius Institutes.

VI. Schedule

1. Application deadline: March 29, 2019 (Friday);
2. The disclosure time for TYUT internal review and the time for the submission of the list of recommended candidates to Hanban will be notified later.

VII. Other Matters

1. The applicant shall not give up the pre-departure training and dispatchment qualification after passing the selection examination organized by Hanban and shall obey the arrangements of Hanban and TYUT to work in the applied Confucius Institute. Otherwise, his or her application for other state sponsored teaching abroad programs will not be accepted.
