Editor:International Cooperation Division .April.16.2019 67

On April 16, a delegation led by Damien Israel, Chief Operating Officer of University of Wollongong (UOW) Australia, visited TYUT. A discussion was held in meeting room 324 of the main office building at Yingxi Campus. President Huang Qingxue and Vice President Liang Weiguo attended the meeting. The heads of relevant subunits including the Finance Division, Academic Affairs Division, College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, College of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Electric and Power Engineering, and College of Mining Engineering took part in the meeting. Liang Weiguo hosted the discussion.

On behalf of the teachers and students of TYUT, Huang Qingxue welcomed the delegation led by UOW Chief Operating Officer Damien Israel and introduced to the latter the basic situation of TYUT, including its history, features, size, teaching faculty, talent training, teaching and research as well as its international cooperation. He also briefed the delegation about the achievements TYUT had made over the years. Huang Qingxue then reviewed the history of exchanges and cooperation between UOW and TYUT and elaborated on the ongoing 2+2 talent training program and the establishment of TYUT-UOW college and the Taiyuan Branch of UOW. He pointed out that as a “double first-class” construction university, TYUT needs to be further internationalized. The inauguration of the joint experimental center of UOW and TYUT today is just a concrete step forward in the cooperation between the two universities in offering joint education programs. He hoped that with this visit as an opportunity, the two sides could communicate with each other even more closely and strengthen their cooperation in personnel training and research result conversion so as to set up more joint education programs, cultivate more international talents, and create a bright future.

Damien Israel expressed his gratitude to TYUT for its warm reception. He said that UOW attaches great importance to research and innovation. While serving its local economy, UOW is also highly internationalized. TYUT and UOW share a similar history of development and featured specialties. He hoped that through the establishment of the joint research center and this face-to-face discussion, the two sides could continue to strengthen their cooperation and complement each other.

In the meeting, the participants watched a promotional video of TYUT together, learned about the basic situation of TYUT, and exchanged their views on the specific details of the joint educational programs.
