On April 11, a delegation of about 80 people consisting of the 2019 spring semester Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and international exchange students and their teachers of Nanjing University visited TYUT. They were on a “Shanxi History and Culture Tour”, which was part of a national conditions study tour organized by Nanjing University.
Professor Li Ruifeng, Director of the International Cooperation Division, extended a warm welcome to the visiting teachers and students. He briefly introduced the history, current status, international exchanges and cooperation of TYUT as well as its training of international talents and construction of the “double first-class” university and disciplines. He hoped that the visiting teachers and students would have a happy stay in Shanxi.
During their visit, TYUT organized two lectures to enable the visiting teachers and students to better understand the history, culture and development of Shanxi. Professor Li Yongfu, Dean of the College of Politics and Law of TYUT, gave a lecture entitled “the Cultivation of Shanxi Merchants’ Spirit and its Enlightenment to Contemporary Society” to students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Professor Li introduced the development path of Shanxi merchants chronologically; presented their spirit and unique qualities to the students; and elaborated, in addition, on the origin, background and promotion of Shanxi merchants’ culture. After class, students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan showed a keen interest in the culture of Shanxi merchants, and their culture tour in Shanxi seemed unfinished for now.
Professor Hou Tao, deputy dean of the College of International Education Exchange of TYUT, gave a lecture in English entitled “Shanxi: History and Today”, introducing the rich cultural heritage and natural resources of Shanxi to the visiting exchange students. From the beautiful sceneries to the celebrities and historic relics, Professor Hou showed the charm of Shanxi as a large resource province and an ancient cultural city to the visiting international students; and led the teachers and students to appreciate the Buddhist culture, Shanxi merchants’ culture, and ancestral roots culture of Shanxi.
The two lectures were lively and highly informative; and well received by the visiting teachers and students. At last, the Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and International Exchange Students of Nanjing University visited TYUT’s history exhibition.
