On March 26, a delegation from Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) led by its vice president Helmut Weiβ visited TYUT. Party Committee Secretary of TYUT Wu Yucheng and Vice Presidents Wu Douqing and Liang Weiguo met with the guests respectively. The two sides discussed the cooperation memorandum signed in January 2018 and the cooperation matters raised by TYUT delegation during its second visit to OVGU at the beginning of this year. It was hoped that both sides could further implement, strengthen and expand substantive cooperation. The heads of relevant subunits of TYUT, including International Cooperation Division, Confucius Institute Office, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and College of Environmental Science and Engineering etc., joined the meeting.
In the meeting, Wu Yucheng warmly welcomed Vice President Helmut Weiβ and his delegation. He hoped that the two universities could conduct extensive cooperation and exchanges in the establishment of Confucius Institutes and the construction of academic programs in materials, chemicals, mining and machinery etc.
Liang Weiguo, in his remarks, first introduced the history, internationalization and construction of the “double first-class” disciplines of TYUT. He said that the People’s Government of Shanxi Province and TYUT had followed with great interest and strongly supported the promotion of international cooperation. And the deep-going talks between the two sides on the preparations for the establishment of Confucius Institute and on further cooperation in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering and environmental engineering would definitely accelerate the pace of cooperation between OVGU and TYUT. He hoped that the two sides could use the Confucius Institute as a platform to expand their cooperation and exchanges in chemistry, chemical engineering and environmental engineering, including the exchange of teachers and students, personnel training and scientific research; and accelerate the implementation of the agreed cooperation intentions.
Helmut Weiβ, Vice President of OVGU, was pleased to have this return visit. He introduced OVGU’s preparations for the establishment of the Confucius institute, saying that OVGU would strengthen its coordination efforts in the coming months and speed up the submission of application to relevant authorities. Meanwhile, he also introduced the history of OVGU; and believed that the two universities share similar research directions in chemical engineering and environment, which provides good conditions for cooperation. He hoped that the cooperation between TYUT and OVGU could be deepened steadily in the future.
The heads of College of Chemistry and Chemical engineering and College of Environmental Science and Engineering introduced their respective disciplines; and expressed their willingness to further the cooperation and exchange on relevant academic programs.
During the visit, Helmut Weiβ and his delegation also visited TYUT’s history exhibition and Mingxiang campus and gained a deeper understanding of TYUT. This return visit has yielded remarkable results and will lay a solid foundation for extensive cooperation between the two universities.
