Notice on the Selection of Reserve Chinese Directors for the Confucius Institutes Jointly Built by TYUT

Relevant Subunits,

To ensure the steady development of Confucius Institutes and meet their increasing demand for Chinese language teachers, we now launch a university-wide selection of reserve Chinese directors for the Confucius Institutes jointly built by TYUT as per the requirements of Hanban, and notify relevant matters as follows:

I. Proposed Posts

1. Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Kabul University Afghanistan (CIKU);
2. Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus;
3. Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute (to be built) at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) Germany.

II. Proposed Dispatching Time and Term of Service

Suitable reserve candidates will be dispatched in accordance with the work arrangements of the Confucius Institutes, with a term of service of 2-4 years.

III. Eligibility Requirements

According to the requirements of Hanban, candidates for the Chinese directors of Confucius Institutes shall have the following qualifications:
1. The candidate shall be 35-55 years old and healthy physically and mentally; have the title of associate professor or above or hold an administrative position of deputy director or above for at least 1 year; and have overseas study or work experience;
2. The candidate shall love Chinese international education and the cause of Confucius Institutes, and abide by the laws and regulations of China and the country where he or she will be dispatched;
3. The candidate shall understand the national conditions of the destination country; have a good command of English (or German); and master word processing, internet and multimedia application technologies. He or she shall be familiar with Chinese teaching; and have the required leadership, cross-cultural communication skills and execution capacity;
4. The candidate shall meet other conditions required by Hanban at the time of dispatchment.

IV. Remuneration

The remuneration for the dispatched directors of Confucius Institutes will be set in accordance with the “Regulations on the Management of the Allowances and Remunerations for Teachers Dispatched Abroad by the State” (Finance & Education [2011] No. 194) and the “Selection Criteria and Remuneration Standards for the Chinese Directors of the TYUT Confucius Institutes” (TYUT Party Committe [2018] No. 23) issued by TYUT Party Committee.

V. Selection Procedures

1. The applicant submits the electronic and paper versions of the “Application Form for Confucius Institute Staff Dispatched by Taiyuan University of Technology" (Attachment 1) (the head of the subunit which the applicant is affiliated shall sign the application form and affix it with the official seal), together with relevant proof materials (Attachment 2);
2. The Confucius Institute Office will review the qualifications of the applicant together with other relevant divisions; and submit the review result to TYUT administration for approval. TYUT will recommend a certain percentage of candidates to Hanban as per the result of a comprehensive evaluation;
3. The recommended candidates will participate in an interview organized by Hanban, and those who pass the interview will then participate in the pre-departure training (1 to 2 months) organized by Hanban to obtain the dispatchment qualification;
4. The candidates who have obtained the dispatchment qualification accredited by Hanban will be included in the list of the reserve Chinese directors for the Confucius Institutes jointly built by TYUT and dispatched abroad at an appropriate time.

VI. Schedule

1. Application deadline: March 22, 2019 (Friday);
2. The disclosure time for TYUT internal review and the time for the submission of the list of recommended candidates to Hanban will be notified later.
