At the 17th International Conference on Alcohol Fuels in 2008, Methanex, the world’s largest methanol production and sales company, signed a five-year agreement with TYUT to establish the Methanex-Taiyuan University of Technology Scholarship. In September 2013, Methanex renewed the agreement with TYUT for another five years. In May 2019, Methanex and TYUT will renew their agreement again for the next five years. As per the renewed agreement, in the next 4 years starting from 2019, Methanex will provide scholarships to the outstanding master/doctorate students of TYUT; and grants to undergraduates or graduate students who have excellent academic performance but suffer from financial difficulties. Each year, 5 outstanding students will be selected for the scholarships and grants, and each student will be granted RMB9,000. The Methanex Scholarship Management Committee consists of foreign experts and professors in related disciplines of TYUT (see attachment for details). The list of winners of scholarships and grants will be determined through the procedures starting from individual application up to preliminary evaluation, interview (the interview language is English), and publicity.
Grants for poor students
Targeted students: full-time students of TYUT;
The applicant shall submit proofs of his or her financial difficulties (the college which the applicant is from shall provide a proof statement as well);
The average academic performance of the applicant shall not be lower than 80 points;
The applicant shall have good moral qualities; and provide two recommendation letters in English;
Priority will be given to students from remote and poor areas.
Scholarships for Excellent Students
Targeted students: the master/doctorate students of TYUT whose research field is energy and chemical engineering;
The applicant shall have excellent academic performance and be ranked in the top 5%, with strong research potential;
The applicant shall have good moral character and leadership potential; and provide two recommendation letters in English.
Notes: The applicant shall not apply for the scholarship and grant at the same time. If the applicant for the scholarship or grant is not a full-student student of TYUT, he or she shall prepare a 5-10 minute English self-introduction for the interview (including his or her personal profile, the research topic(s) that he or she has participated in and the reasons for the application).
The applicant shall submit both the paper and electronic versions of the application materials to Ms. Guo, International Cooperation Division (Room G208, Guojiao Building, Yingxi Campus) before May 20. The size of the electronic version shall not exceed 2M.
