Notice on the Selection of Exchange Undergraduates for the Cooperation Program between TYUT and University of West Florida in the 2019-2020 Academic Year

The University of West Florida (West Florida or UWF) is a new public research-oriented university in Florida. It was established in 1963. UWF accommodates more than 10,000 students on campus, and it was once rated as one of the best colleges in the Southeast of the United States by the Princeton Review. TYUT signed a memorandum of cooperation with UWF in 2014 to start the exchange of undergraduate students.

I. Program Overview

The selection of exchange students for the program starts in March every year. The exchange begins in the fall and lasts for one semester. The program accepts junior or senior students in related majors at the College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, College of Electrical and Power Engineering, College of Information and Computer, College of Software, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, College of Mathematics, College of Data Science, College of Foreign Languages and College of Economics and Management. Applicants can log on to the official website of UWF https://uwf.edu to learn about its programs and curriculum settings.

UWF will waive tuition fees for 8 applicants per year based on their language and GPA scores and offer a number of scholarships in addition. The deadline for the application of the scholarship is April 1 of each year.

Meanwhile, depending on the specific circumstances, TYUT will provide a certain amount of financial assistance to the exchange students in accordance with the “Management Measures of Taiyuan University of Technology for the Financial Assistance to Overseas Exchange Undergraduates”.

II. Eligibility Requirements

1. 2016 and 2017 undergraduate students
2. The applicant shall have Chinese nationality, love the socialist motherland, and have good political and professional qualities. He or she shall be excellent both in conduct and learning, and healthy physically and mentally. He or she shall be honest and credible and have no record of violations of laws and disciplines. He or she shall have a good sense of cooperation and strong communication skills.
3. The applicant shall have excellent academic performance, with an average credit point of 3.0 or more (5-point system). The number of courses that the applicant has failed to pass at TYUT shall not exceed two (including two). Furthermore, the applicant shall not have any failed courses before going to the United States; otherwise he or she will not be dispatched abroad. Minor-degree undergraduates are not allowed to apply for the exchange program. The applicant whose major compulsory courses do not match those of UWF are not allowed to apply for the exchange program either.
4. English Proficiency: The applicant shall have obtained 80 points or above in TOEFL, with no less than 15 points in each item, or 6.5 or above in IELTS, with no less than 6.0 in each item. He or she shall be able to use English proficiently.
5. Students shall apply for the exchange program on a voluntary basis and shall abide by the relevant selection regulations and requirements of TYUT.
6. The applicant shall submit the courses matching table to the Academic Affairs Division within four weeks after receiving the admission notice from MU. Otherwise, it will be deemed automatically that the applicant has given up participating in the exchange program.

III. Submission of Application Materials and Deadline
1. Exchange Program Application;  
2. A photocopy of passport;
3. Transcript (in English);
4. Two recommendation letters from teachers;
5. Immunity Certificate;
6. Scholarship application website (uwf.edu/Confucius);
7. The TOEFL or IELTS transcripts (if any) shall be sent to UWF via ETS or IELTS. (If not, please provide the transcripts before May 10, 2019 and mail them as required).

The applicant shall submit the “Application Form of Taiyuan University of Technology Undergraduate International (Cross-border) Exchange Program” (see Attachment 1) and the application materials to Office G208 of International Cooperation Division (Opposite to the Gymnasium at Yingxi Campus) before March 11, 2019. One copy of the paper application materials is required. Relevant divisions of TYUT will examine the qualifications of the applicant and review the application materials. UWF will select the best candidates. The result of the admission will be notified later.
