Liang Weiguo leads a delegation to Germany

From February 18 to 21, Vice President Liang Weiguo led a delegation to visit Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) and University of Applied Sciences Trier (UAST) in Germany.

 

During his visit to OVGU, Liang Weiguo and the head of the International Cooperation Division of TYUT had a substantive discussion with Helmut Weiβ, Vice President of OVGU, and Thilo Zinecker, Director of the International Cooperation Department of OVGU, on the joint construction of Confucius Institute. The discussion covered topics like the overall requirements of the Confucius Institute Headquarters for the newly proposed Confucius Institute, the provision of personnel and facilities, and the detailed application procedures etc. The two sides believed that OVGU meets the eligibility requirements; and agreed to expedite the application process and make substantial progress this year on the basis of the preparations completed so far.

 

During his stay at OVGU, Liang Weiguo also listened to the introductions made by Professor Andreas Lindemann, Dean of Faculty of Electrical and Information Technology; Professor Michael Scheffler, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; and Professor Dominique Thevenin, Dean of the Faculty of Process & Systems Engineering, of their respective faculties; and reached preliminary agreements on cooperation.

 

In Birkenfeld, Liang Weiguo and his delegation met with Mr. Michael Dietz, Director General of the Department of Industry and Trade of Birkenfeld; Dr. Michael Knaus, Head of International Department of UAST; and Andreas Scholz and Jane Hou, CEOs of Sino German Oak Garden International Group; and had preliminary discussions with the latter on setting up Confucius Institute classes and conducting Chinese teaching in the local region, and issues with regard to their further cooperation with the College of Environmental Science and Engineering of TYUT.

 

The delegation has successfully completed the scheduled plans and tasks of the visit, demonstrating a pragmatic and efficient working style. After returning to China, relevant subunits will step up their effort to promote the construction of Confucius Institute and strengthen the cooperation between the key disciplines of TYUT and their German counterparts.
