Jamaican news media “The Gleaner” publishes a special issue to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institute

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institute at the Mona Campus of the University of West Indies (UWI) in Jamaica, The Gleaner, a local print media with the largest circulation and highest visibility in Jamaica, published on September 22 local time in the form of a special issue the letters of congratulations from Jamaica’s Governor-General Patrick Allen, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Principal of the Mona Campus at UWI Dale Webber, Party Committee Secretary of the Confucius Institute Headquarters Ma Jianfei, Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica Tian Qi, TYUT Party Committee Secretary Wu Yucheng, TYUT President Huang Qingxue and Vice President Liang Weiguo etc.

 

In the special issue were also published information about the global distribution of Confucius Institutes, the evolvement of the Confucius Institute at the Mona Campus of UWI over the past 10 years, and an introduction of TYUT etc. In addition, the Chinese and Jamaican directors of the Confucius Institute were also interviewed at Newstalk – Jamaica Radio to promote the Confucius Institute and the tenth anniversary celebration series. The Confucius Institute will play an important role in promoting Chinese teaching and cultural communication in the Caribbean as its influence grows in the local region with these diversified publicities.
