In accordance with the arrangement of TYUT Party Committee and as an important part of the theme-focused education of “remaining true to our original aspiration and keeping our mission firmly in mind”, Vice President Liang Weiguo chaired a seminar on promoting the internationalization of TYUT in Conference Room 316 of the main office building at the Yingxi Campus on the afternoon of October 15, analyzing and discussing the status, tasks and deficiencies with regard to the promotion of internationalization. Attending the seminar were the heads of the functional divisions, including Personnel Division, Finance Division, Academic Affairs Division, Graduate School, Research Affairs Division, Logistics Division, International Cooperation Division, and Development and Planning Division etc.; the heads of the teaching subunits, including College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, College of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Mining Engineering, College of International Education Exchange and College of Safety and Emergency Management Engineering; and the heads of the research institutes, including Key Laboratory of Coal Science and Technology, Key Laboratory of New Sensors and Intelligent Control, Key Laboratory of Interface Science and Engineering in Advanced Materials and Key Laboratory of In-situ Property-improving Mining etc.

In the seminar, the heads of the functional divisions, centering on measures to promote the construction of “double first-class” university, analyzed the difficulties in promoting internationalization from such aspects as the top-level design of the strategic internationalization project, international talent training and course setup, education and management of international students, internationalization of teachers and students and internationalization oriented logistics support etc.; proposed countermeasures and work plans for the future. The heads of the teaching and research subunits introduced the status and deficiencies in promoting the internationalization of their respective subunits; and shared their views and recommendations on internationalization promotion policies, the internationalization of students and teachers and the connotation of internationalization, etc. in line with the features of their respective specialties and disciplines.

After listening to the views and ideas from the seminar participants, Liang Weiguo, centering on the new situation, opportunities and challenges facing TYUT in implementing the strategic internationalization project, presented issues affecting the internationalization of TYUT. After highlighting the importance of promoting internationalization for the construction of a high-level international innovative university, he urged all subunits to adopt the internationalization concept of running schools and incorporate the internationalization concept in talent training programs, discipline construction, building of teaching teams, personnel training, scientific research and management services etc. All subunits, he added, should seize the historical opportunity of internationalization development, build on their current achievements, keep up with the international frontier development and plan the internationalization development strategy from a high starting point and in an all-round, multi-faceted and wide-ranging way. And efforts should be made to promote the internationalization of education, improve the working mechanism and strengthen the construction of platforms so as to improve the overall educational excellence, core competitiveness and international reputation of TYUT and expedite the construction of the “double first-class” university.
