Editor:International Cooperation Division .November.04.2019 120

On the afternoon of November 2, TYUT held a special new-era “double first-class” university administration internationalization training team debriefing seminar in the Meeting Room 601 of Yifu Building, Yingxi Campus. TYUT Party Committee Secretary Wu Yucheng, Deputy Secretary Liu Runxiang, and Hao Fei, project director of Shanxi Provincial Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs attended the debriefing seminar. The heads of related subunits of TYUT also attended the meeting. Members of the training team shared the results and gains of their training in the United States. A total of over 80 league and student management cadres attended the debriefing seminar and exchanged their views and experience. The seminar was chaired by Liu Runxiang.

In the debriefing seminar, Yan Xin, the deputy leader of the training team, gave a presentation titled “ploughing deep the fertile Chinese soil, planting thick the career education and training talents for the new era”, reporting on the training team’s trip to the United States, its training schedule, the workshops attended, and follow-up trainings etc. from five aspects, namely, “building a team with one heart, remaining true to our original aspiration with perseverance, taking up our mission with confidence, identifying gaps and clarifying priorities, and strengthening implementation with determination”.

Four members of the training team shared their gains and thoughts on themes such as the talent training system of American colleges and universities, classroom teaching innovation, strategic ideas and measures on internationalization, and the comparison between Chinese and American higher education. In his report entitled “Student-centered Talent Training System”, Li Peng, starting from the autonomy that American college and university students have in choosing their universities, majors and courses, shared his observation of and thinking about the “student-centered” concept of American university education administrative services as reflected in student academic guidance, innovation and entrepreneurship education, tangible display of campus culture, and humanized design of the educational environment etc. In his report entitled the “Education and Teaching System of American Colleges and Universities”, Zheng Weiguo introduced the teaching model innovation, the teaching evaluation system and the teacher cultivation of American colleges and universities from the aspects of the curriculum system, teaching modes, teaching quality guarantee and selection of excellent teachers etc., and shared his own views and recommendations on how to draw on the experience of American colleges and universities to improve our own teaching quality and excellence, teaching quality evaluation and control, teaching quality test standards and methods, curriculum system construction, and student learning guidance. Li Wenbin made a report entitled the “Internationalization Practices of American Colleges and Universities, Perception and Enlightenment”. He introduced the internationalization processes, concepts, and required teachers of American colleges and universities. Referring to the university he had visited, Li Wenbin introduced in detail the internationalization strategy, services and international cooperation projects of Rutgers University, as well as its cooperation and exchanges with Chinese universities. In addition, centering on the principles that the socialist universities follow in running their schools and relating to the internationalization strategy of TYUT, he also shared his views and recommendations on the internationalization of students and teachers, the internationalization of curriculum and teaching and the creation of an international campus atmosphere at TYUT etc. In his report entitled “American Higher Education Viewed from Rutgers University”, Wang Fei introduced the history of development, the classification of universities, and the advantages and disadvantages of the American higher education and analyzed the similarities and differences between Chinese and American higher education from a comparative perspective.

Hao Genyan, the leader of the training team, made a summary report entitled “Following the World’s Dynamics, Telling the Chinese Stories and Contributing to the Development of TYUT”. He expressed his gratitude to TYUT Party Committee for its lasting support to the building of a student work team and the improvement of its capacity, especially its strong support to the league and student management cadres for going to the United States for exchanges this time. He showed his in-depth analysis of the teachers’ design and practice of various teaching approaches in American universities; the students’ interactive learning in the first and second classrooms; the university-running philosophy which puts students in the first place, aims to serve the local economy and highlights the disciplinary features and advantages; and the omnipresent campus cultural symbols, with four sentences, i.e. “the teachers are busy; students fully occupied; their priorities clear; and their culture omnipresent”. He further summarized the characteristics of this international training with a phrase, i.e. “a combination of breadth, sharpness and stickiness”, which means that in the training, they had insisted on not only systematic and in-depth learning with an international perspective, but also clear understanding and expression by telling the Chinese stories based on China’s development and acting as a culture disseminator and a messenger of friendship. Meanwhile, the training team is also committed to staying in close touch with the foreign party, strengthening publicity and maximizing its learning outcome so as to contribute to TYUT’s construction of “double first-class” university.

Hao Fei praised highly the high-quality completion of the training mission by TYUT’s new-era “double first-class” university administration internationalization training team, and introduced the follow-up overseas training programs.

In his address, Wu Yucheng pointed out that the training in the United States had broadened the horizons of the training team members and inspired their thinking. And they had gained a lot in thought, spirit, knowledge and insight. In particular, the six members of the training team had summarized in their reports the results of their learning and reflection from this international training experience from different angles. Their summaries were well done and their reports excellent. He urged all the student work cadres to firm their “four self-confidence” and selectively learn from the academic philosophy and mature experience of the high-level American universities while building a consensus on their own educational philosophy. He called on them to clarify their work orientation, upgrade the level of their administration and improve their work skills and art, so as to accomplish the task of the socialist university to train qualified socialist builders and reliable successors for the Party and the country. He further requested them to expand their horizons, have a holistic and systematic understanding of TYUT’s development and its construction of the “double first-class” university, and regard the student work with an international perspective. Through regular summaries and continuous learning, he stated finally, the training team members should try to transform the learning results of this training into long-term mechanisms and effective measures to promoting their administration services to the student education in line with the situation of TYUT and the reality of their own work.
